Behind the Scenes at the Brisbane Flower Markets
At 4am, while most of Brisbane is still asleep, the day is just beginning for Perrotts Florists Director, Brian Sweeney. With more than 30 years of experience and a lifelong passion for flowers, Brian’s mornings start early — and they start at the markets.
Each week, Brian visits the Brisbane flower markets in the pre-dawn hours to hand-select the freshest seasonal blooms for Perrotts' five boutiques across the city. It’s a ritual he’s followed for decades — one built on instinct, trust in local growers, and an unshakeable commitment to quality.
By 4:30am, Brian’s trolley is already rolling through the bustling stalls, filled with the best picks of the day. Whether it’s rich autumn foliage, blousy spring peonies, fragrant summer stock, or elegant winter tulips, he knows exactly what to look for — and what his customers will love.
This dedication is part of what makes Perrotts a Brisbane institution. Established in 1910, Perrotts Florists has been blooming for over a century, with a reputation for quality, creativity, and tradition that continues to grow.
From the early market runs to the final ribbon tied on a bouquet, there’s care in every step of the process — and it all begins before the sun comes up.
Next time you visit one of our stores, you’ll know: that stunning bunch in your hands was chosen with love and experience, before the city even stirred.
